What’s all this, then?

The title of this blog is the same as its motto, Latin for “Across Time, Wisdom.” Modern society places a great emphasis and importance on newness: the most cutting-edge technology, the latest hit film, the new #1 song. While not attempting to romanticize or live in the past, it seems important (to me) to understand it, as knowing the past is necessary to extrapolate potential futures. This blog is an attempt to remedy the recency bias inherent in modern thought by (to quote C. S. Lewis) “keep[ing] the clean sea breeze of the centuries blowing through our minds.” In this endeavour, I place no realm of knowledge off limits, although my own writings will necessarily gravitate towards those subjects I have interest in and knowledge of (derived from either formal training or self-directed study, and usually some combination of both). All broad-minded individuals who wish to use my writings as an aid to their own personal bildung are encouraged to read on.
